We love the Canon 5D and what it can do. Lot’s has been reported about getting great results, about lenses, mounts, viewfinders etc., but one really amazing thing for guerrilla film makers especially is this. It is a stills camera and therefore makes the camera operator look more like a tourist than a film maker. Because it does not look like a film or video camera, shooting out in public areas becomes much more viable, even at landmark locations.
This short film above, ‘Sign Language’, written and Exec produced by a good friend of mine, Stephen Follows, is a great example. Shooting on public buses and Oxford Street in the heart of London, using only available light, the micro crew managed to get the production value of this iconic location without having to go through endless hoops to ‘officially’ shoot there. Of course it comes with its own risks. You may get kicked out, but if you notify the police (like these guys did), it’s much less likely.
